Totalitarianism?

Consultative form of Democracy:

Unlike Christianity and many other religions, Islam is a complete way of life covering all aspects of human life. Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) was asked to consult people in worldly matters:

“and consult them In affairs (of moment) then, when Thou hast taken a decision put Thy trust In Allah. for Allah loves those who put their trust (in Him)” ”(Qur’an;3:159)

Similarly the Islamic system of government is based on the principle of consultation (shura), the democratic way spelled out by Qur’an fourteen centuries ago:

“who (conduct) their affairs by mutual Consultation”(Qur’an;42:38)

Prophet Muhammad [pbuh] did not nominate his successor, his first four successors [Rightly guided Caliphs] one after the other were chosen through a consultation process. Any pious Muslim is entitled to be the ruler of Muslims. Narrated Anas bin Malik: Allah’s Apostle said,

“You should listen to and obey, your ruler even if he was an Ethiopian (black) slave whose head looks like a raisin.”[Sahih Bukhari Hadith#9.256]

Many slaves rose to rule the Muslims many former military slaves, usually recruited from among the Central Asian Turks, became military leaders and often even rulers as in Eastern Iran, India (the Slave Dynasty of Delhi), and medieval Egypt. Notwithstanding the hereditary kingship which followed later a deviation from the Qur’anic principles. Hence it is totally absurd to call Islamic political system as totalitarian.

Bible and Christianity, Support totalitarian system:

Obedience to ruler is mentioned in Bible at Romans;13:1-4. Monarchy is not appreciated by God as system of rule in the Old Testament. After Moses the Israelites asked Prophet Samuel for appointment of a King like other nations. (Qur’an; 2:246-250). They were cautioned about the excesses of kings but they did not budge from their demand, ultimately, their request was accepted by God and Saul was appointment as King of Israelites (1Samuel;8:5-22,10:1), this was beginning of monarchy among Israelites. The Christendom continued to follow monarchy, the democracy being followed at present is through the historic political evolutions nothing to do with religiosity or Christianity. Rather Popes had been crowning the kings as a token of rule by divine authority. Islam does not have the clerical office like Pope.

The Holy Roman Empire, realm of varying extent in medieval and modern western and central Europe was established by Charlemagne, who was crowned emperor by Pope Leo III in 800, the empire lasted until the renunciation of the imperial title by Francis II in 1806. The name Holy Roman Empire reflected Charlemagne’s claim that his empire was the successor of the Roman Empire and that this temporal power was augmented by his status as God’s principal vicar in the temporal realm (parallel to the pope’s in the spiritual realm). From the mid-11th century the emperors engaged in a great struggle with the papacy for dominance, they fought with the popes over control of Italy.
